Silicon Carbide is classified to two
types divided by its production methods;
Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide(RB-Sic)and
Self Sintered Silicon Carbide(SS-Sic). Reaction
Bonded Silicon Carbide is inferior to Self
Sintered Silicon Carbide in mechanical and
chemical properties but is widely used in
hard faces of mechanical seals because of
its excellent lubrication and friction properties.
Self Sintered Silicon Carbide(SS-SiC), also
known as Direct Sintered Silicon Carbide,
have excellent mechanical/chemical properties
that can withstand high concentrate acid
and base, and slurry environment. Precision
and efficient press-shaping process is required
to compensate the offset measurements before
and after the process.
